We recently paid another visit to Sri Threads, an amazing textile gallery run by Stephen Szcepanek just up the road from us in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Sri represents one of the world’s foremost collections of antique Japanese textiles ranging from the early 1800s to the 1950s. The pieces are left in their original condition and feature beautiful dyeing, stitching, and mending techniques that were developed to serve functional purposes in rural Japanese households.
We came back from Sri with another big batch of outstanding pieces, and we’ve included a glossary of a few interesting terms that might come in handy as you browse right here.
