Phigvel Service Shoes

Stanley & Sons Beach Checkers Set

Last year we introduced one of the most impressive, perfectly-constructed products we’ve ever had at Hickoree’s — Phigvel’s legendary Horsehide Engineer Boots in black and brown. Today we’re thrilled to show off another pair of Phigvel footwear and announce our special pre-order programs for both styles.

Phgivel’s Service Shoes are judiciously updated interpretations of classic, WWII-era military oxfords. Referred to as “shoes, low quarter” in Quartermaster depot catalogs, these elegant and tough shoes would put the finishing touch on a soldier’s starched and pressed dress uniform. They are distinguished by the use of glossy cowhide, flat laces threaded through six eyelets, and a reverse welt with contrast color stitching.

Phigvel’s expertly updated interpretation departs from the originals in offering black andburgundy along with the classic russet leather color. They also incorporate a water-resistant oiled leather sole and are made on a custom last designed from scratch by Hideki Tohno, Phigvel’s founder, who apprenticed as a bootmaker for years before launching his brand. This original shape is designed to be comfortable and elegant, with a close fitting, supportive instep and roomier forefoot.

Many modern day designers draw inspiration from military uniforms, which have always occupied a fascinating, stylish middle ground between “dressy” and “casual” clothing. Even the most formal uniforms tip their hats to the performance-oriented design of actual battlefield dress. These service shoes represent this intersection perfectly: they’re elegant and tough; formal and versatile; high-shine and no B.S.

We are now accepting pre-order for Phigvel’s Horsehide Engineer Boots and Service Shoes. If you are interested in obtaining a pair, please contact us atsupport@hickorees.com for further details.
